Feeling like there has been a lot more rain in Pittsburgh than usual? I am. This summer, we scrubbed three camping trips due to rainstorms. I can't count how many days my kids and I sat on the porch, watching the rain drumming down on the car hoods, pool towels sagging in our hands.
So is it a wetter summer than usual? Or have I just been unlucky with the timing of each rain?
According to the National Weather Service (https://www.weather.gov/pbz/pit_records), 2021 through July has seen 22 inches. The thirty year mean through July for Pittsburgh? 24.26". While it seems to be wetter than usual to me, we are below average for the year. We still have hurricane season yet to blow through, but so has every other year. Hopefully we will not see anything like August, 2004, when the area saw 10.06" of rain fall.
